Has something ever gone wrong in your life that kickstarted a series of events that kept on going downward in a spiral?

One thing goes wrong and now one thing after another seems to be going wrong. Instead of everything you touch turning into gold, it’s turning into dust.

Storytime

I can honestly say that this was 2022 for me. Being on maternity leave with my second child it was difficult. Starting from my Son’s nursery closing down unexpectedly so I had to run around like a headless chicken trying to get him into a new one.

To my birthing plan not going to plan and ending up having my daughter at the bottom of my staircase; despite going into the hospital earlier that day and reporting to the midwife that my waters had broken but they told me otherwise and sent me home.

Then rejected by the council for suitable accommodation despite my son’s special needs. In addition to several rejections from over 7 schools to take my son despite having an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP).

To top it all off facing rejection after rejection on promotion applications. How I’m still sane writing this with two kids at home I’m as puzzled as you are.

But you know life gets like that sometimes and you have to do whatever you need to do to relieve the stress.

Here are 6 ways to help you dis-stress:

  • Crying –  God knows I’ve shed my fair share of tears. It might not resolve the problem, but it sure does help relieve the pain.
  • Socialise – especially with close friends with whom you can fully be yourself around.
  • Talk – talking to someone you can trust helps reassure you that you are not alone and as they say a problem shared is a problem halved.
  • Treat yourself – whether to a spa or manicure do something nice for yourself.
  • Laugh – watch a comedy or a funny YouTube video, I must admit if this was a charge I’d be guilty because I love laughing.
  • Ask for help – asking for help ensures that you get the support that you need during this tough period.

Even though some of these may not solve your problems they can be a good way of de-stressing and re-energising to help you get through the difficult period in your life. They can act as a time out from the negatives.

Just like we need time off from work to invest in ourselves and go on holiday; sometimes we need a break from our problems.

Otherwise, they can consume you to the point where you no longer see or hope for the light at the end of the tunnel. That’s not a place you want to be or even allow yourself to get to so find what works for you to rejuvenate so you can keep on fighting.

The tide will turn when everything you touch will turn into gold and you’ll understand why it all had to be so difficult.

And with that I’ll leave you with this:

Not all trials can be avoided, but all trials come for a reason. The reason will be revealed only when you see it through to the end.
